In his performance Als ik jou was, David takes you on a philosophical journey through his own life. He reflects on the choices that have made him who he is today and wonders: could I have chosen differently? Because David can do what he wants—but could he have wanted differently? And does he even know what he wants?

Questions demand answers, and answers demand words. David searches for the meaning of life with sentences full of meaningful nonsense. He believes you cannot find answers without words. Without words, you are left with just “ant”—and that gets you nowhere.

The combination of analytical sharpness and social awareness forms the foundation of David’s work on stage. In his texts and music, he explores how people think, choose and doubt, often blending humour, reflection and a playful love of language. In 2025, he won the Leids Cabaret Festival, taking home the student, audience and jury prizes. Now, he appears as a striking new voice in the Studio.
