Melancholia
Melancholy is longing for something you have never experienced. In Melancholia, mezzo-soprano Fee Suzanne de Ruiter gives this elusive feeling a voice. Together with pianist Florian Verweij, she takes you on a journey through music by, among others, Bach, von Bingen, Boulanger and Berio.
In this programme, you explore not only melancholy itself, but also the other temperaments that touch upon it. Light, restlessness, longing and quiet introspection appear along the way, until everything comes together in a concert that feels close. Not heavy or sombre, but rich in nuance and imagination.
Fee Suzanne sings with a free, warm voice and a strikingly natural sense of text and expression. Part of the programme is even performed a cappella. This makes Melancholia especially direct: for a moment, there is nothing between you and the music.
Whether this performance has an interval is not yet known.
