Inspired by the phenomenon of murmuration—flocks of birds moving through the sky in perfect harmony—Kalpanarts explores how individuals relate to one another within a larger whole. When do you move along? When do you diverge? And what happens when trust becomes the guiding force?

A flock of birds has no fixed hierarchy, yet moves with breathtaking precision. Direction shifts in a fraction of a second; the whole responds as one body. In Winged, this natural phenomenon becomes a mirror for our society: how do we find cohesion in a world that is speeding up and fragmenting?

The dancers form constantly shifting constellations. They propel one another forward, catch each other, break out of structures and return again. The tension between autonomy and connection becomes physically tangible.

Kalpanarts is a vibrant contemporary dance company in which music is a driving force. Rhythmic patterns, live energy and layered compositions form the beating heart of the choreography. Under the leadership of choreographer and artistic director Kalpan Raghuraman, and artistic associate and executive director Gysèle ter Berg, the company merges Indian dance forms with Western contemporary dance.
