Interview with Daan van der Hoeven
This season, during Nieuwe Namen Thursday, a new talent will take to the stage on the last Thursday of every month. Daan van der Hoeven will kick off this brand-new series on 25 September with his show Mensenmens.

Daan has been performing on stage at The Comedy Club Haug for years. He has also appeared at various festivals, including Lowlands, Paaspop and the International Comedy Festival. Plenty of experience, you’d say, yet creating your own show is a different ball game altogether.
“When you perform at the Comedy Club, you go full throttle for about fifteen minutes. My own show is much longer. You also work with several narrative arcs, which makes things more complex. All in all, I hope people have a great evening and enjoy a good laugh,” Daan explains.
A rough edge
“The show has the feel of an American-style comedy set, the kind Louis C.K. does, for example. That’s what I enjoy most. A stage, a microphone, a nice spotlight and raw stand-up comedy.”
Trial & error
“I’ve just finished the first try-out in Leidschendam. The audience laughed a lot. But there’s still plenty to work on. Some bits you just know: ‘this isn’t going to make it’, ‘this could go deeper’, or ‘I’m basically saying the same thing twice here’. Those parts get scrapped or merged. In any case, I’m not worried about it ending up anything other than funny.
