Badke(remix)

More than ten years ago, ten Palestinian dancers toured the world with Badke. However, the piece was not created by Palestinians. With Badke(remix), the artistic narrative is now in the hands of Palestinian makers Amir Sabra and Ata Khatab. A dance production with a powerful story that carries you along from beginning to end through the dancers’ expression.

The title is a deliberate inversion of dabke, the name of the Palestinian folk dance and the starting point of the production. With backgrounds in traditional dabke, contemporary dance, hip hop, capoeira or circus, the Palestinian performers present a contemporary version of this dance, traditionally reserved for (wedding) celebrations. Badke(remix) displays vitality and a love of dance as a form of resistance.

In Badke(remix), a fully contemporary interpretation of the folk variant has been chosen: an explosion of joy, a highly vital physical expression that speaks of connection, an affirmation of belonging. At the heart of ‘social’ dabke lies something unique that Palestinian dancers can proudly present to the rest of the world.
