DJANGAN! is a dance performance about a father, a mother, two children and a war trauma in a space where every action is charged. Because what happens when the atmosphere is determined by what is not spoken? When a war trauma settles in the home like an invisible guest?

The pressure on the stage is clearly palpable in the auditorium. Just like the forceful and defining paternal presence in the family. The past has no place, never had one, but still influences the atmosphere in the home. Responses evade or provoke, and determine the patterns in the family. It is calm, yet restless.

Traditional Indonesian dance and urban contemporary come together in this performance by choreographer Cheroney Pelupessy. It shows a claustrophobic family portrait, in which everything is on edge. DJANGAN! shows what happens when a new generation lets go of the past. When it moves on with what is now and creates space for what is still to come.
