In the Beethoven Year 2027, Ludwig van Beethoven of course cannot be omitted. Camerata RCO, featuring musicians from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, performs a programme that takes you to Vienna around 1800.
Central is Beethoven’s Septet in E flat major, Op. 20. A work that immediately stands out for its clear structure and lively interplay. The combination of strings and wind instruments creates a rich sound in which the instruments step forward time and again. You can hear how elegantly and inventively Beethoven writes here.
In addition, the Clarinet Quartet in E flat major by Johann Nepomuk Hummel will be performed. He too moved within the musical Vienna of that time and knew Beethoven personally. In this quartet you hear the refinement and charm of Viennese classicism. Together, these works demonstrate how vibrantly chamber music from this period still sounds today.
